Basic Phonics Rules

Short Vowels - If a word or syllable has one vowel and it comes at the beginning or in between two consonants, the view is usually short.

Long Vowels - Long vowels say their own name.

Y as a vowel - As a vowel, y usually has a long I or long e sound. It has a long I sound at the end of one-syallable words.
