  Accelerated Reader®:

Grades 1 through 5 participate in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program.  This year our library theme for AR is "Make Reading a Howling Success.”  AR is a program that tests a student’s memory on books they have read.  Each grade level has a section of the library that best suits their needs and reading level.  Each AR book is designated by a blue dot for easy recognition by the student.  After reading an AR book, the student will take a multiple choice test on the computer and earn points for each correct answer on the tests they pass.  Each student is encouraged to earn a minimum number of points, based on grade level, as listed below.  If they don’t make it one quarter, they have the chance to start over and make the next one.  It has worked very well in the past, and we look forward to another great year.  The goals for each quarter are:

Grade 1: 3 points
Grade 2: 5 points
Grade 3: 7 points
Grade 4: 10 points
Grade
5: 12 points

Following are the dates for our four AR quarters for the 2011 - 2012 school year:

1st Quarter:  August 1 - October 7

2nd Quarter:  October 10 - December 9

3rd Quarter:  December 12 - February 24

4th Quarter:  February 27 - May 4
