Physical Fitness Test

Physical Education classes have just completed a battery of eleven physical fitness activities.

Fitness activities tested aspects of strength, endurance, flexibility, agility, and speed. Students were tested on the following event: push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, arm hangs, standing long jump, 50 yard dash, shuttle run, sit and reach. 1/4, 1/2, and mile run. The physical fitness test is a comprehensive test made up of activities primarily suggested by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.”

All events, excluding the 50 yard dash and the standing long jump, are recorded on a special compurter program. This program analyzes test results, targets standard ranges of achievement, and lists suggestive activities for improving fitness levels.

Three students’ at Indian Creek Middle School, seventh grader Sammy Wong and two eighth grade students, Stephanie Arends and Jared Yaggie qualified for status in the “President’s Physical Fitness Award” category. To reach this status, a student must achieve an 85th percentile or above on all test items.

We had 69 students qualify for status in the “National Physical Fitness Award” category, indicating that the participants have achieved 50th through 84th percentile on all test items. Others could qualify for “Participant Physical Fitness Award” status by attempting 5 items of testing, but whose scores fall below the 50th percentile on one or more items. Approximately 238 students participated in the fitness challenge.

Ribbons awards will be given to the top 3 boys and the top 3 girls in each fitness event. These ribbons re normally given at the spring school assembly awards day.
