Seventh Grade Update
The 7th grade team hopes that each of you had a pleasant and restful spring break whether you traveled to a sunny destination or stayed home and got a jump on spring cleaning. The school year is passing rapidly. It is hard to believe that the 4th quarter begins as we return from the break; please encourage your students to finish the year with a strong effort all the way to the last day of school. The team encourages students to get a start on their 4th quarter AR goals as the quarter begins.
Due to a prolonged cold and flu season we are running short of Kleenex and disinfectant wipes. Donations of these items to get us through the rest of the year would be greatly appreciated.
On May 2nd, 7th grade students and teachers will take their annual class trip to Brookfield Zoo. Look for information and a permission slip to be sent home later in April.
In social studies students will investigate the Lewis and Clark Expedition after the break and try to understand and appreciate one of America’s great adventure stories. As mentioned in the flyer sent home last week, donations of road atlases and maps of the United States (like the ones that come in National Geographic or from Rand McNally) are needed so we can trace the progress of Lewis and Clark across the west.
7th grade students have completed their study of evolution in science and will
next be looking at how living things are classified. Following that, each student
will have the opportunity to select an animal to research and then create a
brochure or poster telling about that animal. Students will present their animal
research to classmates. Later in the quarter students will learn about human
body systems and proper care of their bodies (i.e. the importance of nutrition,
sleep, exercise, etc.). If time permits before the end of the year, 7th grade
students will do research on famous scientists, looking at their backgrounds
and scientific contributions.
In Language Arts classes, students have just completed the literature circle
unit. We are winding down from the group projects; check out the photos next
time you are in the building. In April, we will be returning to the textbook
and then begin our final novel study on The Watsons Go to Birmingham –
1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis. This will introduce students to the Civil Rights
Movement.
In math the students are working on daily problem sets and tests every five
lessons. Students are reminded each day in class to take good notes and show
all work. The work should be done in their math spirals and can be used on tests.
Students are receiving review sheets before each test and should use those to
study from. Please make sure your student has enough school supplies (pencils,
red pens, etc.) to make it until the end of the year.
