6th Grade Team
One week out of the regular routine may not seem like a big deal to you, but
to some sixth graders it may present a major challenge. For the second time
in many years, 6th grade students across Illinois took the ISAT tests. These
tests were challenging and tested our ability to not only choose the correct
answer but also be able to justify our responses with a written summary of our
thinking processes. Now it’s time to get back into our normal schedule
and since, as we all know, these last two months will seem to fly by we need
to do it right away. Please help your student remember that being a full time
student is their number one priority.
The weather will (hopefully) turn nice, longer sunlight hours as we “spring
ahead” and many other things will compete for their attention. Please
remember that eligibility rules for participation in extra curricular activities
are still in place. It will take a concerted effort on all our parts to keep
our students focused in order to ensure a strong finish.
We did it! We have used many less passes in the third quarter and some of your
students should have received a homework pass as a reward.
In math class we are learning new topics everyday. Your student should be able
to help you convert a percentage to a decimal, a fraction to a percentage and
so forth. It is important that students keep up with daily work, as it seems
that each lesson is harder and more involved than the last. Every student knows
that help is available first thing in the morning (during homeroom) and last
thing each day (Resource) for those problems that are tough. We ask each student
to do 2 things first: 1) go back in the book to help you solve the problem and
2) show us your work for the part of the problem you can do. Try it, you just
may be able to do it!
We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable spring break. Then, we hope all
of you come back on Mar. 31 ready to finish the school year with renewed energy
and focus on academics to finish strong.
April is National Poetry Month. Students will be studying poets and writing
their own poetry.
In May students will be working on their biography reports. At the end of the unit students will participate in a Biography Tea. All parents are welcome to attend this special afternoon for our sixth graders.
