Overview: Painting will allow students to explore another avenue for creativity. This course will enhance the development of a stronger art history background through the study of various painting techniques and artists styles. Art 202 will allow students to communicate through a variety of paint mediums. The student will learn various painting techniques; will demonstrate a level of craftsmanship appropriate for their ability level; develop a useful vocabulary to effectively communicate art terminology; create works that express feelings and emotions; study well known works of art; discuss the use of the formal and sensory elements in a particular work; develop a better appreciation for all styles of art; and discuss intelligently their likes and dislikes of various works.

ART302:

Open to: Grades 11 and 12

Prerequisite: ART202

Credit: 1/2 per semester

Maximum Credit: 1

Overview: This is an advanced course in painting techniques. The student will learn and demonstrate advanced painting skills relative to various styles of art.

November 3-4 Draw a self-portrait, using line with no shading. Painting will be done in class paint
November 9-10 Create a design using cut paper to illustrate repetition/pattern Construction paper
November 16-17 Draw 3 cans from your pantry Marker and watercolor
November 21-22 Re-design a cereal box Use color, your choice of mediums
November 30-December 1 Sketch a landscape of this area. Use line only, no shading. Painting will be done in class paint
December 7-8 Create a holiday painting. These will be displayed at the Nursing Home Watercolors
December 14-15 Freedom of choice Collage and paint
January 5-6 2012 (during class) Draw 1 object 3 times and paint each object in a different style paint
